New Year's 2008 *EVENT* & OPEN CALL to creative folks

Hello everybody!

I am new to this tribe and to this region of the nation.

This announcement is intended as an OPEN CALL for musicians, dancers, volunteers, artists, and other creative people who are interested in participating in a TWO-NOTE PRODUCTIONS experimental music-dance-theatre ensemble work on DECEMBER 31st, 2007--New Year's Eve--in Bisbee, AZ. This is the best night of the year in Bisbee, is it not? This will be an unforgettable night as we break into the new year with song, dance, and ritual. What can you do to participate? Or maybe you know someone who might be interested in joining the show? Feel free to spread the word, I would appreciate it! If we want to make this a spectacular show, we need to start planning, rehearsing, and building costumes, sets, etc. much in advance. This event will be a product of its participants, so that means YOU will play a vital role in how the final performance turns out.

Event: NEW YEAR'S CELEBRATION

When: December 31st, 2007

Where: Bisbee, AZ

Contact:
Two-Note Productions
Justin Karpel
livinluff@yahoo.com
(530) 953-5947

I am currently writing a script for my part in the show. The nature of the performance will be organically tied into the event--celebrating everything about Bisbee and New Years: the wonders of the high desert, the wild west, copper, turquoise, small towns, champagne, noise-makers, confetti, countdowns, parties, costumes, cowboys, hippies, resolutions, saloons, shoot-outs, 2008, etc.

If you are a novice or professional in anything relating to music (Players, Composers, Sound design/engineering), dance (Choreography or Dancers), or theater (Costuming, Lighting, Acting, Set Design, etc.) please contact me and I am sure there is a valuable part for you to play in our production.

I am currently located in Douglas,AZ which is quite close to Bisbee, AZ. So if you live on the area, contact me! There are also other events planned this year in which you might be able to collaborate too. Or it's possible there might be a part you can play to offer your help us from afar.

Contact me if you are interested in helping on any level.

hey, haven't been there yet, but it keeps bumping into my consciousness, so it's just a smatter of time...

I first read about the place in relation to its old timey motorhome motel (yay) - and then somehow heard about the new years' debauchery.

I can't get htere for new year's (working herein L.A. that year at another event) but I wondered what the other seasons for mayhem might be.

I do a loop to Yuma every year in late February, to go to the Yuma Arts Symposium (highly recommended...) is there anything happening in Bisbee around that time? (thinking of expanding that travel loop...)

Anyway - a big helloooooooooooooo!

:)

bloody friday- ph art walk under attack

BLOODY FRIDAY
OK YOU HEARD AUGUST'S FIRST FRIDAY WAS GOING TO BE A FRIENDLY "EDUCATIONAL" DRIVE BY POLICE - NONE OF US KNEW IT WAS REALLY A PREEMPTIVE STRIKE, "With a multi-tiered and multi-jurisdictional initiative to eliminate the use of our buildings as art spaces." (Roosevelt Row e-notice)

TV, Radio, AP wire service, even on the cover of the Arizona Republic gave heads-up the Thursday before. re:Phoenix Police will "educate" Artlink's Aug 5 First Friday's patrons and visitors (no parking, under-age drinking, vendors blocking sidewalk, pedistrian traffic safety (Artlink's First Friday attracts between 10,000 to 15,000 artwalker's visiting over 80 art spaces, spread out between Roosevelt Row's 7th Street to Grandevelt's 15th Avenue, Grand Avenue from 7th to 16th Ave.

We were expecting to have a pleasant follow-up meeting with police, to discuss the results from Aug 5 First Friday police "educational" drive-by's and together we were looking at working together to develop a long-range strategy for a successful outcome of downtown's "Strategic Vision": we were told, police "don't want to kill First Friday, it's a needed component for downtown vitality."

THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW!
OK we're responsible citizens, creative business types, and family-friendly folks - we are downtown, we live and breath downtown, we have staked our livelihoods on our entrepreneurial vision to evolve a livelihood from our creative passions... we've already paid our dues with years of sweat blood and tears. So why can't we stay on the same page, evolved and recorded by Council approved "DOWNTOWN PHOENIX: A STRATEGIC VISION AND BLUEPRINT FOR THE FUTURE (12/14/04)

What shock and awe we experienced Bloody First Friday: we witnessed Downtown Art Galleries assaulted by police-escorted multiple-agency types, each with educational brochures, citation books and notepads, AND BADGES.

The Following are excerpts from Roosevelt Row Gallery Owner, Greg Esser's Sunday Aug 7th e-notice:
On Thursday, August 4, 2005 the police held a press event and stated that their purpose and intent was to monitor underage drinking, open container violations and parking issues related to the event. This was essentially the message that was reported in the local media. The enforcement effort that the City of Phoenix actually launched and that is currently underway is in fact far broader.

Various inspectors and enforcement officials from the City of Phoenix and Maricopa County entered our business regularly throughout the evening each accompanied by armed police officers.

The inspections we received through the course of the evening included:
The Fire Marshall in plain clothes
Maricopa County Health Inspectors (food)
Zoning Enforcement officials (occupancy regulations)
Tax Enforcement officials (privilege and sales tax)
Neighborhood Services (blight violations, various City of Phoenix code violations)

There were others who would not disclose their affiliation when asked directly.

Further, we were officially notified by a City of Phoenix citations investigator from the Development Services Department on Thursday, August 4, 2005 that our use of our building as an art gallery is illegal. Despite the fact that our building has been used as an art gallery for more than thirty years as evidenced by documents submitted to the City of Phoenix, the citations investigator has arbitrarily stated that our continuing use of the building as a gallery is a “change of use.” The “change of use” requires a new Certificate of Occupancy. In order to obtain a new Certificate of Occupancy, a building must meet current city building code which is not possible for our structure given the historic nature of its construction and the size of our lot. Our situation is typical of many of the art studios and venues downtown now being targeted for code enforcement by the City of Phoenix.

The “change of use” citations are a new and questionable tactic being used by the City of Phoenix as part of a multi-tiered and multi-jurisdictional initiative to eliminate the use of our buildings as art spaces.

If you are a registered voter in any of these districts, please let your elected representative know now that this is an important issue that affects not only the arts in downtown but the health and vibrancy of our state’s capitol.

If you know a bureaucrat or manager within the city - or a news reporter - please...Talk To Them; seek out information... who's initiating this crack-down? is there a bigger developer behind this? (call Greg at 515 Gallery, or your Artlink Representative, or reply to this e-mail your interest to help resolve this crisis).

This incredibly blunderous shake-up shatters our confidence in the "comprehensive consensus building" touted by Mayor Gordon our 21st Century 6th largest city, with 2004's Council Approved, "DOWNTOWN PHOENIX: A STRATEGIC VISION AND BLUEPRINT FOR THE FUTURE..." a vision that looks pretty hallow right now. Perhaps we should reconsider our support for next Fall's Bond Election... Remember the Stadium we stopped?

We will continue to provide you with updates and let you know what you can do to help us through this plight and protect the flourishing arts in downtown against this government intrusion and attack.

Kim Moody
Alwun House Foundation
building a stronger community through the arts

Purple, Italic Text above, was extracted from yesterday's e-mail notice from Greg Esser, 515 Gallery owner, Roosevelt Row association.
of having one of them on their site's frontpage. They also do safe,
private ritual suspensions for anyone interested. The group does not
charge for private suspensions. They feel honored to be able to help
someone else experience the beauty and ritual of suspension, and
could not ever put a price on that. (http://www.lifesuspended.com)
Throughout the night, members of the Southwest Fetish Ball planning
committee will be looking among the crowd for the people who best
represent the spirit of the event. A half-hour after midnight, a
winner will be selected and presented an award. The Honored Attendee
and the runner-up will also each be given a certificate that will
allow them and a friend to attend next year's Southwest Fetish Ball
as our special guests.

The vast majority of the evening will be dedicated to dancing and
socializing. Apart from Tucson's own Drag Kings, Boys R Us, most of
the scheduled events are meant to provide a living backdrop for the
night. Large screen video is SO 20th century. "Don't dream it; be
it!"

Greetings fellow burners,

Gary Taylor is the AZ Regional rep. & is need of your help. I just recieved this e-mail:

Gary Taylor wrote:

This whole deal with Southwest gas company just took my gas money to Burning
Man. I am just at a complete loss as to how I am going to be able to go now.
Sorry to bum you out, that is not the intent but really I just don't see how
I am going to be able to recoup that money. It looks like The Monster Garage
Gig isn't likely to happen between now and then. The fixup job on the condo
didn't happen that I was really counting on, and the Caribou job didn't come
through either. The fundraising money was spent on equipment so it is all
gone now as well.

I really wish I could figure out how to do it. If you have any ideas I would
like to here them.
We're suposta be getting "married" Wed. Sept. 1st too.

Any ideas? He was the PLAYA CHICKEN *WINNER* for last years Burn too.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
May of you may know him from Radio Electra.. He's been "on the air" for several years bringing the BEST music to BRC.

So.............now's the time to come to the aid of a fellow Burner in need..............

Here's his e-mail:

Address: Gary Taylor 7272 E. Broadway #205

Anything is better than -0- Do what you can.

Yours in dust,

Ranger Beauty

P.S.

PLEASE pass this onto your fellow Burners & local lists!
